Deva Snana Purnima: Devotees Throng to Witness Ceremonial Bath of Deities in Jagannath Temple


Bhubaneswar: Thousands of devotees gathered in pilgrim city Puri on Friday to witness Deva Snana Purnima of presiding Deities – Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. This day is considered to be the birthday of Lord Jagannath.

Earlier in the morning lakhs of devotees thronged to Puri to have a darshan of deities – Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Sudarshan on Snana Mandap.

The idols were taken out of Ratna Singhasan in a ceremonial Pahandi to the Snana Mandap (bathing altar). Traditionally, the deities were bathed with 108 pitchers of aromatic water by the servitors.

Meanwhile, keeping in view of the congregation of large number of devotees, the district administration deployed 45 platoons of police to maintain law and order. Besides, six CCTV cameras have been installed near the bathing altar.

Held in the full-moon day of the month of Jyestha this festival is also simultaneously held in all other important shrines of Odisha.
