‘Niladri Bije’: Lord Jagannath Enters Puri Temple with Siblings


Bhubaneswar: Rath Yatra, the annual sojourn of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra concluded as the deities were ushered into the Srimandir in ‘Goti Pahandi’ during the Niladri Bije ritual (return of the deities from the Raths to the Ratna Simhasan) on Thursday.

The Puri Jagannath temple wore a festive look as the Trinity returned to the 12th century shrine after their nine-day sojourn.

Lord Rama, Krishna & Madanmohan were first taken inside Srimandir in ‘Pahandi’ followed by Sudarshan Subsequently, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra, were taken inside the temple to the sanctum sanctorum.

It was Lord Jagannath, who was the last to enter the temple.

As per rituals, Lord Jagannath offered rasagola to goddess Laxmi to pacify her anger as she doesn’t allow him into the temple miffed with him for not being taken along to Gundicha temple.

A rush of devotees was seen at the Puri temple to watch the deities return to their abode from their vacation at Gundicha temple. On Wednesday evening, the ‘Adhara Pana’ ritual was conducted when the deities were offered special drinks.
