Bhubaneswar: The 22nd Asian Athletics Championships concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.
The four-day event brought mixed feelings for fans of the Odia athletes with two of the five athletes finishing with medals.
While Purnima Hembram bagged a bronze medal in heptathlon on Sunday, sprinter Dutee Chand had also secured a bronze medal in the women’s 100m sprint on Friday.
Besides, Dutee and Srabani were also the members of the Indian women’s relay team, which finished third in 4X100m relay on Saturday.
It is for the first time in its history that India finished on top of the standings table. India finished its campaign with 12 gold, five silver and 12 bronze medals making a total of 29 medals.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik greeted all Indian athletes for creating history in Odisha and presented the champions trophy to the Indian contingent.
He also announced that the Kalinga International Sports City would be set up here.
