Bhubaneswar: The 71st Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm across Odisha today amid tight security.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik hoisted the national flag at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here.
Naveen highlighted his government’s achievements in various sectors, such as agriculture, women empowerment, infrastructure development, attracting investment, skill development and employment generation.
Poverty can be “completely eliminated from Odisha by 2036”, Naveen added.
As many as 54 troupes, including school and college students, participated in the march-past.
Apart from this, a police platoon of Telangana and the newly-formed Odisha Police troop also participated in the march-past.
As the day was celebrated amid gaiety and camaraderie across the state, tight security arrangements had been made across the state, especially in Maoist-hit districts, said police.
A tight security cover with all the necessary scrutiny was put in place at almost all venues including at the state capital.
