Bhubaneswar: The 23rd edition of the annual Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award Festival is all set to begin today.
The five-day cultural extravaganza will witness performance from renowned artistes from within the state and outside.
The awards to be given during the festival were announced recently.
Eminent Odissi classical singer Shyamamani Devi and Odissi dancer Guru Dhruba Charan Biswal will receive the NALCO Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award 2017.
The award was instituted in the year 1995 by Ratikant Mohapatra, son and disciple of Kelucharan and director of Srjan, in recognition of contribution of cultural personalities to fields of dance, music, cinema and theatre.
The highlight of the festival this year will be a special presentation by Srjan – “Mahanayaka Bijayananda”, a thematic presentation in Odissi dance of the life and work of leader Biju Patnaik.
