Bhubaneswar: Vishwakarma puja, dedicated to the Hindu deity of architecture and engineering, was celebrated with gaiety in the city on Sunday.
Idols of the deity were seen installed in engineering colleges, hospitals working with medical equipments, physics, electronics and other branches of science colleges and institutes imparting courses in architecture, engineering workshops etc.
Residents owning or depending on any machines, including the autorickshaw drivers, also invoked the deity. Residents in the city were also seen inviting priests to get the puja of their vehicles done.
The workers, as well as the officials, gathered at their offices and performed puja of tools and equipments on the occasion.
The deity is regarded as the ace architect with the credit of designing and constructing swarg (heaven) in Hindu mythology and even Hastinapur and Indraprastha in the Mahabharat. According to Odia legends, it is widely believed that Vishwakarma is the sculptor, who has created the idols of Lord Jagannath and His siblings.
