Shops in Bhubaneswar with their shutter down due to the bandh

Bhubaneswar: The 5-hour strike called by the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over petrol and diesel prices affected the normal life across Odisha on Monday.

The strike was in effect from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

While bus and other vehicles remained off the road at several places, railway services were also affected as BJD activists staged protests at several railway stations.

Holding BJD placards, the protesters were seen burning tyres in most traffic intersections in the capital, bringing road transport to a grinding halt.

School children and office-goers bore the brunt as protesters blocked roads and damaged autos and bikes in Bhubaneswar.

Apprehending trouble, fuel filling stations were shut down till noon in the city.
