Bhubaneswar: Artistes from across the country will be in the city for the 11th Guru Debaprasad Das Award Festival that will begin at Rabindra Mandap from October 26 .
The event is being organised by Tridhara, a dance institution that continues Das’ gharana (style), which was established in the 1980s. Das pioneered the reinvention of Odissi from its ancient form to a performing art for the stage.
Artistes from other art forms including Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathak would also perform at the three-day event.
Every year in fond memory of Guruji, the Guru Debaprasad Award is conferred on veteran gurus and dancers in the field and Indian classical dance. This year, the awards will be presented to renowned Odissi exponent Padma Shri, Mrs. Geeta Mahalik, leading Kathak exponent Geetanjali Lal, renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Pratibha Prahlad and Ranjumani Saikia for Sattriya dance.
Each of the awardee will be presented with a memento, angavastra and Rs. 50,000.
Padma Shri Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar (Dhrupad) will be felicitated for his contribution to his field.
