Bhubaneswar: Artistes from across the country were in the city for the 11th Guru Debaprasad Das Award Festival that concuded at Rabindra Mandap here on Saturday.
The event is organised by Tridhara, a dance institution that continues Das’ gharana (style), which was established in the 1980s. Das pioneered the reinvention of Odissi from its ancient form to a performing art for the stage.
Artistes from other art forms including Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathak performed at the three-day event.
Every year in fond memory of Guruji, the Guru Debaprasad Award is conferred on veteran gurus and dancers in the field and Indian classical dance. This year, the awards were presented to renowned Odissi exponent Padma Shri, Mrs. Geeta Mahalik, leading Kathak exponent Geetanjali Lal, renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Pratibha Prahlad and Ranjumani Saikia for Sattriya dance.
Each of the awardee were presented with a memento, angavastra and Rs. 50,000.
Padma Shri Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar (Dhrupad) was felicitated for his contribution to his field.
