Bhubaneswar: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama arrived in Bhubaneswar today on a two-day visit to Odisha.
After his arrival at the airport, he was given a rousing welcome by hundreds of people and was driven to Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The visit assumes significance as the 82 year old Tibetan leader is also slated to visit Chandragiri in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
The Dalai Lama, who is the first Nobel Laureate to be recognised for his concern for global environmental problems, has been chosen for the prestigious Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Humanitarian Award for the year 2017.
The award will be conferred on him on Tuesday at a special function at the KISS.
Notably, the Tibetan leader is now on a week-long three-city tour to Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata.
