Bhubaneswar: The capital city is playing host to more than 300 artistes, who have united from across the world to participate in the 8th edition of the Odissi International dance festival, that began at the Bhanja Kala Mandap here, today.
Hosted by Samskritiki, a cultural organisation, in collaboration with various Odissi dance institutes of the world, the festival encourages the dancers to discover the cultural roots of the dance form, and intends to promote cultural tourism and foster friendship among people of various countries and cultures.
Dancers from countries such as China, France, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the USA apart from India are participating in the festival.
Odissi artistes from cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, New Delhi, Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sundergarh, Burla, Puri and Balasore shall be staging solos, duets and group dances in different sessions during the festival.
Known better as the annual union of the global Odissi family in the home of the classical dance form, the dance festival will conclude on December 23.
