Bhubaneswar: India defeated Sri Lanka by 93 runs in the first of the three-match T20 International series at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday to take 1-0 lead.
Chasing a big target of 181 in 20 overs, visiting Sri Lanka were bowled out for a paltry score of 87 in 16 overs, with Yuzvendra Chahal picking up four wickets.
Earlier in the evening, Thisara Perera won the toss and invited India to bat first.
While batting, Lokesh Rahul and Rohit Sharma provided India a decent start. However, Sharma could not accumulate runs for the side and departed for just 17. It was KL Rahul, who contributed significant 61, the highest score from the Indian side. After departure of Rahul, the duo of MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey, after initial hiccups, took India to a satisfactory total of 180 at the loss of three wickets.
Both Dhoni and Pandey remained unbeaten for 39 and 32 respectively.
Yuzvendra Chahal was declared the Man of the Match for his splendid bowling figures of 4/23 in his quota of four overs.
