Bhubaneswar: Three day long Mukteshwar Dance Festival 2018 started from January 14th (Sunday) at Mukteswar Temple, Bhubaneswar. The Mukteswar Dance Festival focuses on Odissi dance and music which offers solo, duet and group Odissi performances every evening during the three day event. This is an annual event which is held during the month of January in the capital city.
The inaugural evening began with the solo recital ‘Mukteswar Vandana‘ by Mumbai-based Namrata Mehta, that was based on raga Abhogi and showcased the intrinsic features of Odissi.
Her abhinaya (act) based on a portion of the Gita Govinda – ‘Kisalaya Sayana Tale‘ – won the hearts of the audience.
This was followed by a duet performance by Bijan Palai and Rudrapratap Swain of the city-based Odisha Dance Academy.
The concluding item of the inaugural evening was a group performance by young choreographer Rosalin Mohapatra’s group Devadasi Odissi Ensemble.
The second evening commenced with a solo performance by Shalini Pattnaik from Bhubaneswar.
This was followed by a duet performance by Sipra Swain and Aishwariya Singhdev from city-based Srjan Odissi Nrityabasa of Guru Ratikant Mohapatra.
The second evening concluded with a group performance by Kolkata-based Debamitra Sengupta along with her group.
The concluding evening commenced with a solo concert by Gayatri Chand from Bhubaneswar.
This was followed by a duet by Bengaluru-based Sarita Mishra and Manisha Manaswini from city-based Debadasi Odissi Institute.
The festival concluded with the group presentation by Guru Bichitrananda Swain’s Rudraksh Foundation from Bhubaneswar.
