Bhubaneswar: The 17th edition of the Barabati Nrutya Utsav began at the open-air stage with the Barabati Fort as backdrop at the Killa Maidan in Cuttack on Friday.
The five-day festival, opened with an Odissi ballet by the artistes of the host Odissi Nrutya Mandal, and a Sambalpuri folk performance by the Bargarh-based group Nupur.
In the next four days dancers and groups from different parts of the world would be performing different forms. Odissi dance by Ileana Citaristi, Calcutta-based Kabita Mishra, and dancers from Sri Sri University, Bharatnatyam by Manjistha from Calcutta will be the main attractions this year.
Apart from this, Odissi vocal by Shyammamani Devi, 81, will be another attraction.
An art and crafts fair has also come up. This year, few kiosks at the fair have also been devoted to silver filigree.
