Bhubaneswar: Popular playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy was conferred with the ’10th Prafulla Kar Samman’ on Thursday during the 79th birth anniversary celebration of the versatile legendary Odia music director and singer Prafulla Kar at Rabindra Mandap here.
The award has been instituted by the Prafulla Kar Foundation to honour pioneers in the field of music every year during the birthday celebrations of Kar. The award carried a cash prize of 1 lakh, citation and a shawl.
The award ceremony was followed by a musical programme, ‘Kamal Desh Rajkumar’. Krishnamurthy performed on two Odia Bhajans and a couple of Hindi numbers. She enthralled the audience with her popular numbers like ‘Aaj main upar’ and ‘Hawa Hawai’. Among others, singers Sarika Singh and Mahaprasad Kar also performed.
The concluding day of the programme on Friday will witness an array of performances by singers like Pranab Kishore Pattnaik, Chitta Jena, Dukhishyam Tripathy, Mahaprasad Kar, Bibhu Kishore, Nazia Alam, Chhanda, Adyasha and Ananya.
