Bhubaneswar: The 8th Theatre Olympics organised by National School of Drama (NSD) under the aegis of Union Ministry of Culture, kicked off at Rabindra Mandap here on Saturday.
The capital city is one of the co-hosts of the festival.
A series of 14 plays will be staged at Rabindra Mandap, Bhanja Kala Mandap, and CSIR from February 24 to March 10, 2018. The theatre enthusiasts will get an opportunity to experience a variety of folk, national and international theatre.
‘Galpo Hekim Saheb’, an ‘invited’ Bengali play by veteran theatre artiste, playwright and director Manoj Mitra, was the opening play.
Among other specially-invited plays staged include ‘Ishq Malangi’ (Mustaq Kak), and ‘Shri Ram Bijoy’ (Dulal Roy), international productions ‘Mohajoner Nao’ (Sudip Chakraborthy, Bangladesh), ‘Matbring’ (Yusuf Hasan Arko, Bangladesh), and ‘The Suspended Thread’ (Pino Di Buduo, Italy), ‘Aadi Vidrohi Tilka’ (Sheikh Kairuddin), ‘Behad Nafrat Ke Dino Mein’ (Daulat Vaid), ‘Streer Patra’ (Seema Biswas), ‘Man of the Heart’ (Suman Mukhopadhyaya), ‘Katha Karnabhar’ (Suman Saha), ‘Hiyar Majhe’ (Kingsuk Bandyopadhyay).
The other plays lined up till March 10 are ‘Hojang Taret’ (Oasis Sougaijam), and ‘Elephant In The Room’ (Yuki Ellias).
