Bhubaneswar: Preparations are in full swing in the state for the celebration of Utkal Diwas on April 1. The day marks the occasion when Odisha became a separate province of Odia-speaking tracts scattered under different states such as Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh in 1936.
Private organizations, schools and colleges in the state are organising various events including competitions, rallies, functions, cultural shows, art exhibitions, and food festivals to mark the day.
Similarly hotels and restaurants in the city are preparing to serve special menus featuring Odia delicacies on Utkal Divas.
Meanwhile, the state government has asked all ministers, senior party leaders, workers to pay homage to the icons, who had played pivotal role in formation of the province and also to conduct meetings at the block and town level to celebrate the occasion and carry forward the organisational programmes.
