Bhubaneswar: Odisha Tuesday remembered its legendary leader and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on his 21st death anniversary. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with senior BJD leaders and people from all walks of life recalled his leadership on the occasion and paid tribute by offering flowers at his statues at Biju Patnaik Park and on premises of the State Assembly here.
The Chief Minister, also visited the Biju Patnaik memorial in Puri to offer his tributes.
The BJD has lined up a series of events across the state to mark the day.
To pay tributes to the legendary leader, international sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has created a sand art at the Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Born in the state’s Cuttack city March 5, 1916 in a family of freedom fighters, Biju Patnaik has been often described as the maker of modern Odisha.
He died on April 17, 1997 at New Delhi after prolonged illness. Patnaik, who remained a major political figure in the country during his times, has also been credited for several industrial successes in the state.
