Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Wednesday celebrated the agrarian festival ‘Akshaya Tritiya’ with farmers performing ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’, the ceremonial act of sowing seeds in their paddy fields after ploughing.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik participated in the ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ at the state-level ‘Krushak Divas’ (Farmers’ Day) organised at Nakachi in Angul district and wished a good harvest season and prosperity of farmers.
Ahead of the annual Rath Yatra of the Trinity, construction of chariots began with ‘Ratha Anukula’ on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Another major event of Lord Jagannath- Chandan Jatra also kicked off on Wednesday and will continue for 21 days.
Akshaya Tritiya is also celebrated as the birth day of Lord Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is also considered to be the day when Ved Vyasa and Lord Ganesha started writing the Mahabharata.
