Bhubaneswar: 126th birth anniversary of late Maharaja Krushnachandra Gajapati Narayan Deb had been celebrated here on Thursady. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with senior BJD leaders and people from all walks of life recalled his great contribution towards Odisha’s development on the occasion and paid tribute by offering flowers at his statues at AG Square and on premises of the State Assembly here.
Born on April 26, 1892 to the King of Paralakhemundi Goura Chandra Gajapati and Radhamani Devi, Maharaja Krushna was the pivot of the Oriya movement for the formation of an Independent Odisha state on the basis of language and homogeneity.
He was aslo the first Prime Minister of the Odisha state from 1 April 1937 to 18 July 1937.
He had lso contributed a lot in the establishment of the Utkal University, the SCB Medical College and also the famous Central Rice Research Institute in Bidyadharpur, Cuttack.
