Bhubaneswar: Rain coupled with thunderstorm lashed the capital city on Tuesday, disrupting the normal life and affecting the road traffic.
Many trees were uprooted in major areas of the city causing traffic jam and several parts of the city went without power due to lightening and rainfall.
However, the rains brought temporary relief to the residents, as the capital city has been recording a temperature of more than 42°C for the past few days, causing severe heatwave condition in the city.
The intense heatwave conditions in several parts of the state had forced the state government to extend summer vacations in schools for the second consecutive time till June 25. The schools were earlier set to open on June 18. However, due to the gradual rise in temperature, the state government had earlier, extended the vacations till June 21.
