World Elephant Day Celebrated at Nandankanan Zoological Park

Bhubaneswar: The World Elephant Day was celebrated at the Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Sunday.

The celebration was observed with a mass awareness programme amongst the visitors with a message for elephant conservation. Different activities were planned for the whole day with visitors and elephants.

Prime attraction of this year’s celebrations at the zoo was a one-and-a-half-year-old elephant calf named ‘Mama’. Zoo Director Dr. Hari Shankar Upadhyaya fed the baby elephant fruits marking the beginning of the celebrations.

Fruits were also provided to other elephants of the zoo. A quiz over protection of the pachyderms and a meeting regarding the same were organised on the zoo premises, in which school students, Nandankanan staff and tourists took part.
