Rakhi Purnima Celebrated with Fervour in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Rakhi Purnima is being celebrated with much fervour across the state today. The festival celebrates the bond of love between brothers and sisters.

Dressed in their best outfit, girls are seen tying colourful rakhis on their brothers’ wrists, applying tilak on their foreheads and performing aarti. The older folk also wished their brothers well and tied sacred threads of myriad colours on their wrists.

The festival, also known as Gamha Purnima, has a special significance in the state as on this day, Goddess Subhadra ties the thread of love and trust on her two brothers – Lord Balabhadra and Lord Jagannath – at Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri.
