Bhubaneswar: The 26th edition of the 10-day India Theatre Olympiad – an International festival of drama, dance and music organised by the Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangh at Sarala Bhavan in Cuttack concluded on Monday.
The festival witnessed, more than 50 plays (contemporary, humorous, historical, mythological, ancient, folk, lyrical, musical and experimental, children’s play, mime and pantomime), along with dance performances.
Various cultural groups consisting of more than 2,500 performing artistes, including playwrights, directors, theatre artistes, classical and folk dancers, vocalists, musicians and critics from about 20 states and 12 countries had taken part in the festival.
Manipuri play, Poktringeida Shijage (Better Dead Than Born Alive), by Mani Yumnam was adjudged as the best play for this year.
The best director award was also bagged by Th Brajabidhu Singh, Director, Poktringeida Shijage.
The awards for the best actor and actress also went to L. Bipin Singh and Th Madubala Devi, respectively for Poktringeida Shijage.
