Bhubaneswar: The state government gears up to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with special programmes for two years from October 2 this year.
Several programmes have been approved for the celebration by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a high-level meeting of the State-level committee that was organised on Tuesday.
Five sub-committees have been constituted for the celebration of the anniversary in schools, colleges, urban local bodies, blocks and gram panchayats, in a grand manner. Padayatras and memorial meetings will be held across the State during the two-year period.
Statues of Mahatma Gandhi will be erected at all district headquarters and a major road in each district will be renamed after him.
Apart from this, a syllabus on Gandhiji’s ideologies will be included in the curriculum for Plus-II students.
