Bhubaneswar: Art Vision organised the 14th edition of the Sangam Festival, a confluence of dance on September 29 at Rabindra Mandap, here. It has been an annual dance festival of Art Vision since 2005.
The festival is conceived as an offering of new and exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles in honour of all the Gurus who have guided and inspired the artistes of Art Vision. Every year two styles of dance come together on the same platform to showcase recent and innovative works. While Odissi is a constant factor, the other style varies.
This year, the new choreography presented by Art Vision repertory group was ‘Refugee’, a dance production that attempted to bridge the gap between the world of artistic expression and the social reality of today world. It is an artist reaction to our times intended to heal the divisions created by hate and greed through a message of peace and harmony conveyed through dance. The script was penned by Devdas Chhotray. The concept and choreography was by Ileana Citaristi, while the music was by Laxmikanta Palit.
With patterns of movement on stage, the artistes displayed various Odissi steps and postures. As the music kept varying from soft to thunderous, the dancers kept pace with the changing rhythm.
The second item of the evening was ‘Arthashringara’ offered by Sarfojiraje Bhosale Centre, from Mumbai, lead by Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Bharatanatyam dancer, Sandhya Purecha. The choreography was by Sandhya Purecha while the music was by Manoj Desai.
