Asian Rugby Under-18 Girls Sevens Championship


Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday inaugurated the three-day long Asia Rugby Sevens’ U-18 Girls Championship here at Kalinga Stadium.

A total of 12 countries are participating in the tournament. In the inaugural match of the tournament, Indian girls thrash UAE 22-5 in the tournament opener.

Besides host India, participating teams are from Hong Kong, China, UAE, Philippines, Laos, Qatar, Nepal, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Thailand. The teams are divided in three pools.

The cultural group of Padmashree Aruna Mohanty performed in the inaugural function.

Naveen on the occasion felicitated 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Swapna Barman.

The tournament will conclude on October 29.
