Bhubaneswar: The 13th edition of the Toshali National Crafts Mela is all set to begin at Janata Maidan, here from December 28.
The fair is being organised by State Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department in association with the Development Commissioner, (Handlooms) of the Ministry of Textiles, with an objective to offer a forum for the artisans, weavers and sculptors.
Artisans, weavers and sculptors from all over the country will be participating in the fair to exhibit their traditional and contemporary handicraft and handloom products.
This year, the fair will accommodate as many as 330 handicraft and handloom stalls out of which 50 weavers from different states of the country will be sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Government of India. Similarly, 150 artisans and 80 weavers of the state will be sponsored by Directorate of Handicrafts and Cottage Industries, Odisha and Directorate of Textiles and Handlooms, Odisha, respectively.
Besides, as many as 20 institutions/organisations involved in development of handicraft and handloom will have their stalls.
A food court having 30 stalls by exclusive hotels and restaurants will offer delicious multi cuisine food to the visitors along with traditional Odia cuisine.
Eminent artists and troupes from different parts of the country as well as the state will be performing at the cultural programmes that will be hosted every evening between 06:00 pm and 09:30 pm.
To add to the ambience, a theme pavilion with the theme “Tantukruti” has been conceptualized. The theme pavilion is erected centrally which will reflect use of natural fibres in the making of handicraft and handloom products and also depict various forms of nature transformed in Odishan handloom and handicrafts.
The fair will be open from 02:00 pm to 09:30 pm every day and will continue till January 13, 2019.
