Odisha Celebrates Saraswati Puja with Religious Fervour

Bhubaneswar: Saraswati Puja was celebrated with religious fervours across Odisha on Sunday.

Most of the educational institutions arranged for a religious gathering on the campus premises. Students dressed in colourful dresses were seen offering flowers and taking the items they use in school like (notebooks, pencils, etc.) for a ritual before the deity.

Amid chanting of hymns, children in Bhubaneswar invoked the goddess in their respective schools.

Keeping with tradition, preparation for the world famous Shri Jagannath Rath Yatra begins in Puri on the Saraswati Puja (Basant Panchami). The day marks the procurement of wood for the chariots, the first step towards the Rath Yatra.

As the ritual goes, ‘anukul’ of the chariot wood (‘rath katha’) has happened on this auspicous day. After puja, the wooden logs were taken to the corner at ‘Dalavedi’.
