Bhubaneswar: The bandh call by farmers under the aegis of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) over their long-standing demands of price, pension and prestige on Thursday evoked partial response in Odisha.
In Bhubaneswar, most of the schools and business establishments including petrol pumps remained closed. NNKS members staged a blockade on the Patia-Nandankanan road, near Master Canteen Square and other places of the city.
In Brahmapur, NKS members also staged road blockade raising slogans alleging anti-farmer policies by the Government.
Farmers and activists of NNKS observed the bandh in Bhadrak that hit the vehicular communication between Bhadrak, Cuttack and Baleswar.
In Jagatsinghpur and Phulbani farmers also held protests by shouting slogans against the Government.
In Koraput, farmers along with the members of Congress and BJP participated in the shutdown.
As many as 30 platoons of police forces were deployed in the twin cities to maintain law and order.
