Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded 66% voter turnout in the first phase of election. The polling to 4 parliamentary constituencies and 28 assembly seats concluded peacefully with a satisfying turnout as per the data available from the election commission.
The Southern and south-western constituencies of Odisha such as Berhampur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi went to poll for both assembly as well as parliament.
Many of the districts such as Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Gajapati that voted today – are maoist affected. Despite the call for a poll boycott by naxals, voting seemed to have commenced normal way throughout the day. Chief Electoral Officer, Surendra Kumar addressed the media in the evening said the polling figures are yet to be reached, but by and large the voting was peaceful.
