Bhubaneswar: Rukuna Rath Yatra of Lord Lingaraj was held with much fanfare on 13th April, 2019 on the occasion of auspicious Ashokastami in the Ekamra Kshetra, the temple city Bhubaneswar.
Undermining the effect of scorching heat, thousands of devotees turned up for pulling the chariot of Lord Lingaraj in an environment of beating of gongs, conches and chanting of hymns.
After the completion of traditional rituals such as ‘Mangal Alati’ and ‘Sahan Mela’ darshan, the bronze idols of ‘Chandrasekhar’ (representative idol of Lord Lingaraj), Devi Rukuna and Ananta Basudev were taken to the chariot.
As per rituals, every year on the occasion of Ashokastami, Lord Lingaraj embarks on a four-day journey to Rameswar temple, called Gundicha Ghara and on the fifth day, the three deities do the return journey called Bahuda. All arrangements were made on behalf of city administration so that the pulling of chariot would be done smoothly.
