Bhubaneswar: Cyclone ‘Fani’ has intensified into a ‘severe cyclonic storm‘ on Monday evening and is heading towards the Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
It is likely to intensify further and take a shape of an ‘extremely severe cyclone’ during the next 36 hours a bulletin released by the IMD said.
It is very likely to move northwestwards by May 1 evening and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards towards the Odisha coast, the bulletin added.
Under its impact, light to moderate rainfall at a few places is very likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha on Thursday and ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ is likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Odisha on May 3 and 4.
Sea conditions is very likely to be very rough along & off Odisha coast between May 2 and May 4. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
