Bhubaneswar: In the wake of intense heatwave conditions prevailing across Odisha, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for eight districts namely Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Deogarh and Jharsuguda, for the next 2-3 days.
The IMD has predicted heatwave conditions will prevail across the state for the next 2-3 days during which temperature will remain above 40 degree Celsius and may touch 45 degrees Celsius in some districts, recording five degrees above normal.
On Sunday, as many as 11 places in the state recorded mercury above 40 degree Celsius , the maximum temperature of the state at 44.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Titilagarh. Sambalpur recorded 44.4 degree Celsius, while Balangir and Sonepur recorded 44 degree Celsius . Hirakud, Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna recorded 43 degree Celsius. The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubanswar recorded 39. 4 degree Celsius and 39.7 degree Celsius respectively.
