Yogurt or Curd is savored by a lot of us and is a critical ingredient of our diet plans. However, there may be an event when you must have got confused between the trending Yogurt and the traditional Curd! Interestingly, a few of us feel that it’s all the same. Curd is for ‘India’ while Yogurt is for ‘West’! But, to your utter dismay, bot are different!
The curd is made by curdling or fermenting of milk, and by including some edible acidic substance to it, for example, lemon juice or vinegar. Add of these in milk, it will begin coagulating in this way isolates into a solid and fluid part. The solid, white part is the curd and the liquid part is whey protein.
It’s somewhat sour in taste, credits to the acidic substance in it. You can make at home by including a teaspoonful of curd into the milk, after heating and then chilling it off to 30-40 degrees. Curd itself has a type of bacteria called Lactobacillus which aides in formation of the lactic acid. And this lactic acid changes the milk to curd.
The curd is very nutritious. Other than the carbohydrates, proteins and fats, it likewise has nutrients A, E and K. It also has thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 & B12, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese, fluoride. It has heaps of Probiotic enzymes which aids digestion process and keeps your colon healthy and colon.
Did you know- Red Chillies also helps in the formation of curd! You might be astounded that red chillies are the rich in lactobacilli, the bacteria that help in the formation of milk to Curd.
Yogurt can’t be prepared at home and is basically an industrial product. But, you would like to know that yogurt is a healthier option as cor curd, only one bacteria i.e. Lactobacillus bulgaricus is needed. For yogurt, you’ll require two such bacteria-Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles for making of yogurt.
Vitamin B12, calcium, potassium, protein, Zinc, Vitamin B5 and iodine. For all those fitness and health freaks out there, Yogurt is remarked as ecstasy. It helps in weight reduction as well as reducing high cholesterol levels and keeps hypertension & blood pressure under control.
