Bhubaneswar: The State continued to be gripped by intense heatwave conditions with mercury hovering above 40 degree Celsius at 9 places on Sunday.
Sambalpur was hottest recording maximum day temperature of 43.6 degree C. Hirakud was the second hottest place in the state with 43.1 degree Celsius.
The other places which breached the 40 level mark include Titlagarh (42.6), Hirakud (43.7), Angul (40.4), Sonepur (40.8), Malkangiri (41), Bhawanipatna (40.5), Bolangir (42) and Jharsuguda (42.2).
