Bhubaneswar: Lakhs of devotees from across the country converged on Odisha’s temple town of Puri today to witness the Bahuda Yatra (homecoming festival) of the deities of Sri Jagannath temple.

The Bahuda Yatra is held eight days after the annual Rath Yatra, which marks the journey of Lord Jagannath, elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, from the 12th century Jagannath temple in three splendidly decorated wooden chariots to Gundicha temple, about two km away.

The return of the deities follows the same rituals as performed during the Ratha Yatra.

A glimpse of the deities on the chariots during the Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra is considered to be very auspicious.
