Bhubaneswar: Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated with much gaiety and religious fervour across the state today.
In the capital city, people in large numbers thronged Ram Mandir and ISKCON Temple to offer morning prayers.
The temples were decorated with elaborate flower arrangements and beautiful lamps.
On this auspicious day, most people either fast or go on a pure vegetarian diet that is free from onion and garlic.
The festival also marks the beginning of preparations for celebration of Durga Puja with collection of clay for Goddess Durga’s idols.
