Bhubaneswar: Xavier University, Bhubaneswar launched its first edition of ‘Green Marathon’, a run for a cause that was organized by the Sports Committee of XUB, to meet its vision to address sustainability, while also spreading awareness regarding the importance of fitness.
The event was held on September 22, 2019, as a prelude to Xamboree’19, the Annual Cultural–Management Festival of XUB.
The marathon was inaugurated by Father S. Antony Joseph Raj, S.J, Deputy Registrar and Prof. Sutapa Pati, Dean, XSoS & Co-ordinator, University Student Affairs and Disciplinary Committee.
The marathon witnessed a footfall of 300 participants, ranging from students to the elderly. They ran for 6 kilometers from Infocity Square till Janta Maidan, and were provided with refreshments at defined checkpoints.
Mr Ashok Dandasena and Ms Lipsa Mallick emerged as the winners in the male and the female category respectively. Both were awarded a cash prize of Rs.2500 each.
A cash prize of Rs 1000 was awarded to children who completed the marathon without consuming any refreshments.
This was followed by a flashmob performed by the students of XUB. In the true essence of the theme of the marathon, all the waste was collected by the runners and the organizing team.
