Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of Diwali, people across Odisha conducted a special ritual called ‘Paya Shraddha’.

In Bhubaneswar, while people visited the Bindusagar lake to conduct the ritual, in Puri, lakhs of devotees thronged Srimandir and lit ‘Kaunria Kathi’ (jute sticks) in front of Singhadwara while chanting ‘Badabadua Ho Andharare Aasa, Aalua Re Jao’ and offered ‘Paya Shraddha’ to their ancestors.

It is believed that the spirits of our forefathers visit the earth on Mahalaya and return to their heavenly abode after receiving Paya Shraddha on Diwali.
