Bhubaneswar: The 13th edition of the Guru Debaprasad Das Festival hosted by city-based Odissi dance institution Tridhara featuring eminent dancers from across the country, began at Rabindra Mandap, here on Monday.
The three-day event is being hosted to pay tribute to Odissi doyen Debaprasad Das by his disciple Gajendra Panda, the director of Tridhara, which was founded by Das for the propagation of Odissi.
The 13th edition of the festival includes choreography as well as musical recitals.
The inaugural evening began with the Solo Odissi dance by Guru Durga Charan Ranbir.
This was followed by Odissi dance drama ‘Yogini Yoga Rupa’ by the principal dancers of Tridhara.
The second evening will witness Flute recital by Pandit Ajay Prassana accompanied by Pandit Prosenjit Poddar (tabla), duet Bharatanatyam recital by V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan, duet Kathak recital by Pt Raghav Raj Bhatt and Mangala Bhatt, solo Odissi performance by Rathimalalar Govindarajoo and solo Odissi performance by Amrita Das.
The concluding evening of the award festival will witness performance of traditional songs of Odisha – Chanda, Champu and Bhajan – by eminent singers of Odisha – Dr. Shyamamani Devi, Dr. Guru Ramahari Das, Dr. Chittaranjan Pani, Dr. Sangita Gosain

Every year in fond memory of Guruji, the Guru Debaprasad Award is conferred on veteran gurus and dancers in the field and Indian classical dance. This year, the NALCO Guru Debaprasad Award for 2019 goes to Gurus V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan (Bharatanatyam), Guru Durga Charan Ranbir (Odissi), Pt Raghav Raj Bhatt and Mangala Bhatt (Kathak) and Dr. Nita Vidyarthi (Art Critic).
The Guru Debaprasad Prativa Awards for Odissi dance goes to Guru Binayak Panda – Ganjam, Odisha, Amrita Das – Vardhaman, West Bengal, Rathimalar Govindarajoo – Malaysia, Atasi Mishra – Rayagada, Odisha.
