Bhubaneswar: Districts in coastal Odisha had started experiencing rainfall accompanied by strong winds from Friday afternoon under the impact of the very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul passing along the Odisha coast.
The India Meteorology Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts.
The state government has advised people to remain indoors. Fishing activities have also been suspended along the coast, educational institutes have been asked to remain closed and farmers have been advised to take steps to protect crops from heavy rain.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire services have been deployed in the districts of Puri, Jagasinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam.
The intensity of rain in the coastal districts is likely to increase from Saturday.
