Bhubaneswar: The eleventh edition of the Bharat Muni Festival is all set to kick off at Rabindra Mandap, here from Sunday.
The annual festival hosted by Odissi dancer Puspita Mishra’s Kalingayana Touryatrikam has emerged as a major event in India .
The festival is dedicated to the ancient scholar Bharata, whose work Natya Shastra is a celebrated text even today when it comes to theatre and dance.
The festival features both stalwarts and young acclaimed artistes of classical dance and music. Apart from this, the annual Bharat Muni Samman is instituted to honour a living legend of Indian performing arts.
This year, the inaugural evening of the festival will witness Odissi performance by the artistes of the host institute, followed by Kuchipudi performance by Dr P. Ramadevi and Indian Classical Music by Preeti Nanda Routray.
The second evening will feature Odissi performance by Guru Niranjan Rout, Bharatnatyam by Dr Sandhya Purechha and Kathakalli by Renjish Nair.
This year, the Bharat Muni Samman will be conferred on Bharatnatyam exponent Padma Bhusan V. P. Dhananjayan. The award will be presented on the closing day of the two-day festival on December 16.
