State Government’s Cooked Meal Scheme and Social Distancing

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, Odisha is going through lockdown these days and many destitute and needy people are seen struggling to arrange meals for two times a day in Gram Panchayats across the State.

As per the state government’s cooked meal scheme, the poor and needy people identified in every gram panchayat are to be served cooked food twice a day and this service will be executed through Self Help Groups and PRI members. Most of them were arranging free kitchens on the office premises, village schools and community centres where people in large numbers sit together and relish the food, violating the social distancing norm, forgetting that community feast may lead to community spread.

After proper inspection and supervision, now the needy people are maintaining social distancing norms in every Gram Panchayat level while receiving their food.
