From Ticket Booking To Boarding - Special Train during COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: Amid the lockdown, the Special Express Train (02823) to run between Bhubaneswar and New Delhi departed from Bhubaneswar Railway Station at 10 AM on Wednesday. It will run on a daily basis.

The process of ticket reservation for passengers via online booking service began on Monday evening. Tickets for the special train were sold out in 30 minutes after online booking commenced through the IRCTC website on Monday evening.

After following the necessary precautions of social distancing, thermal screening and sanitisation, the passengers were provided with awareness leaflets and soap paper. Finally, the passengers were allowed to board the train which was scheduled to depart at 10 AM. This train has a total of 17 coaches of 3A/2AC/1st AC type. It will have stoppages at Balasore, Kharagpur, Tata, Bokaro, Gaya, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction and Kanpur Central between Bhubaneswar and New Delhi.

As the ECoR official said, It will be mandatory for passengers to wear face masks and undergo thermal screening at departure. Passengers are to carry their own food and towels. All passengers need to reach Bhubaneswar station for screening at least 90 minutes before the train’s departure. Passengers will have to clear medical screening before boarding the train. Only asymptomatic passengers having confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the trains.

The Ministry of Railways on Monday released the complete timetable of 15 interstate special trains commencing operation from May 12. All 15 trains are bound for various destinations across the country to New Delhi and vice versa.
