Puri: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday said the decision of holding the Ratha Yatra in Puri would be taken care of by the Odisha government keeping in mind the ongoing lockdown situation and allowed construction of the chariot in the Ratha Khala for the religious procession. Ratha Khala is situated on Grand Road in front of the Jagannath temple office. However, according to the guidelines issued, the religious congregation is strictly prohibited.
As the temple committee said, complete segregation of the Ratha Khala is done by erecting a cloth partition wall so that the public can be prohibited. Today is an important day in the construction of the chariots as the fixing of the axles and wheels are being done. The Bhaunri Jatra and Chaka Dera Anukula event started at the Ratha Khala today for construction of the chariots for Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra and Devi Subhadra for Ratha Yatra 2020. The construction work is going on with strict lockdown norms and precautions to keep Coronavirus at bay.
The ministry, however, made it clear that the State government would take a final call on holding Rath Yatra scheduled for June 24. The Sevayats, who have been serving at Shree Jagannath Temple insist that the mega festival is to be held as per schedule.
Rath Yatra attracts millions of devotees from all over India and overseas. This year if the Ratha Yatra could not be held due to the prevailing situation, the chariots would be dismantled and the logs would be used as fuel in the temple’s central kitchen.
