Bhubaneswar: On 14th July 2020, the state government appointed Prateek Singh and Uma Shankar Dash as the new Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in Twin City (Bhubaneswar and Cuttack). Now, the two officers have assumed charges as the new DCPs. Umar Shankar Dash has appointed as the new DCP of Bhubaneswar, while Prateek Singh has assumed charge as Cuttack DCP.
Outgoing DCP Akhileshvar Singh (Cuttack) and Anup Kumar Sahoo (Bhubaneswar) has handed over the charge to the new DCPs at the presence of Sudhanshu Sarangi, the commissioner of police at Commissionerate Police office.
During the event, the new DCPs stated that they would put their maximum efforts for controlling the crimes and effective COVID-19 management. Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police Sarangi explained about the challenges related to urban policing to the new DCPs. Besides, he also explained the difference between the Commissionerate system and district police system.
Sarangi stated that he organized a meeting after the new DCPs took over and elaborate them some ongoing issues. He further advised them to meet the officers and discuss with them. Their familiarization with all will take time.
While welcoming the two officers into the Commissionerate Police, Sarangi also praised Uma Shankar Dash’s work as SP of Puri in organizing Rath Yatra during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, he also praised Prateek Singh’s efforts in dealing with LWE- Left- Wing Extremism in Kandhamal while working as SP of Kndhamala.
While assuming their charges, the new DCPs also have apricated the former DCPs for their good works. Uma Shankar Dash stated that he is feeling proud of it. He further stated that it would be quite challenging for him to carry out the works and initiatives done by his predecessors.
Talking about some past works, Sahoo successfully handled Men’s Hockey World Cup and the general election conducted in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Around 15 criminals were arrested under NSA- National Security Act during his work. During his tenure, Singh led multiple operations against anti-social activities.
Sahoo has appointed as the new deputy inspector general of the intelligence department, and Akhileshvar has assumed the charge as SP of Puri district.
