Daily Round-Up: Low-intensity Earthquake Hits In Gajapati and Ganjam

On Saturday, a low-intensity earthquake hits several areas of Gajapati and Ganjam district, which has created panic among people. The National Centre for Seismology informed that the magnitude level of the earthquake was 3.8, and the center point was located near Gajapati’s Paribheta and Tandiguda. The mild level of tremors was felt in Ganjam’s Patrapur and Gajapati’s Mohana.

2. Private Hospitals Now Can Treat COVID-19 Patients

The Health & Family Welfare Department of Odisha has issued an advisory granting permission to private hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients. They will set up a COVID-19 unit in hospitals.  The number of cases of very mild symptomatic, moderate to severe, is rising rapidly. Now such steps from the State Government will help to manage such cases. 

3. New COVID Care Homes By OMC In Three More Locations

In the second phase, OMC-Odisha Mining Corporation has established Covid Care Homes in three locations. These are Koira’s Kurmitar area, Barbil’s Seremda are and Bangur area. It may be noted that, during the first phase, OMC had built CCHs in four different locations. All the new CCHs will have 10-bed facilities.

4. Odisha Records Its Highest Single-Day Recovery

On Friday, the state witnessed its highest single-day recovery as around 1810 patients recovered from deadly COVID-19 virus. As per the report from the Health and Family Welfare Department, the Ganjam district reported maximum recovery with 700 patients recuperating from the virus. The recovered patient number from Khurdha is 202, 147 from Cuttack, 116 from Dhenkanal, 136 from Gajapati, and 106 from Sundergarh.

5. ILS:  Odisha’s COVID-19 Cases Will Go Down By September

As per Dr. Ajay Parida, Institute of Life Science’s Director, there will be a significant fall in COVID-19 cases in the state by the end of September. He also said that positive case would reach its peak during August and then will go downward. Ganjam is now witnessing reduced cases, and that’s why the fatality rate is also going down.

6. Yellow Warning For Various Odisha Districts By IMD

As there is another low pressure forming over the Bay of Bengal, IMD- India Meteorological Department has issued a moderate-heavy rainfall alert for the different districts of Odisha. As per the report. Southern Odisha’s districts will witness moderate rainfall for the next 24 hours. The yellow warning has been issued for Sundergarh, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatshingpur.

7. Hemant Sharma, IAS Officers Fails To Depose Before Odisha Lokayukta

The chairman of the COVID-19 PPE kit procurement committee, Hemant Sharma, has failed to depose before the State Lokayukta. For this reason, the hearing on the case of alleged irregularities in the procurement of PPE Kit was rescheduled. OPCC- Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee filed a petition stating corruption in the process in the purchase of PPE kit.
