SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar will conduct the second phase of the human trial of the COVID-19 vaccine named Covaxin from next week. 375 volunteers were involved in conducting the first phase of the trial. Covaxin is the vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech along with the National Institute of Virology (NIV) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Approval of Rs 1.23 crore for Startups and Incubator

An aid of Rs 1.23 crore has been approved by the Startup Odisha Taskforce under the State Startup Policy for 15 startups and one incubator. The grant was given during the 16th meeting in which Satyabrata Sahu, MSME Principal Secretary, took the chairmanship. The technology innovations of the startups were highly appreciated by the members of the task force.

Change in the Schedule of Common PG Entrance Test

The last date has been extended for filling the forms for Common PG Entrance Test-2020 (CPET-2020) to take admissions into different Post-Graduate courses. As per the new schedule of the Higher Education Department, the Common Application Form (CAF) will be available online on the official website,, from 2 pm to August 12, 2020, till 11:45 pm of September 10, 2020. The entrance test will take place from October 10 to 19, 2020.

Nandankanan Loses one more Anaconda

On Friday, another anaconda died in the Nandankanan Zoological Park. According to the stamen of the zoo official, the postmortem of the giant snake will reveal the cause of death. Last year, Nandankanan lost two anacondas. Only five are now left, out of the eight anacondas brought to the zoo on October 22, 2019.

Postpone NEET, JEE: Demands Khuntia

Rama Chandra Khuntia, former MP, demands the postponement of the NEET and JEE examination owing to the serious pandemic situation of COVID-19. The active cases stand at 33,10,234, and the death toll has increased to 60,472. Seven-day Shutdown in the Town of Jharsuguda

On Friday, Jharsuguda’s district administrator made an announcement of a seven-day shutdown from August 30 to September 5 owing to the steep rise of COVID-19 cases. The medical and essential service will be, however, functional from 6 am to 11 am during the shutdown. The district has reported 1,033 COVID-19 cases, out of which 415 active are active.
