Electricity consumers in Odisha will have to pay more as OERC- Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the power tariff. The consumers will now pay 20 paise more per unit. As per the notice, the new plan will be effective from 1st October 2020. The new tariff will not be applicable for the farmers below the poverty line and Kutir Jyoti consumers.
Odisha Govt Cancels 163 Fertilizer Dealers’ Licenses
Based on some complaints of irregularity in the fertilizer supply, the State government has canceled dealership licenses of at least 163 fertilizer dealers. Arun Kumar Sahu, Agriculture Minister, informed that the dealers were selling fertilizers at a higher price. Furthermore, complaints have been lodged against 9 dealers by the agricultural department.
Ganjam Starts COVID Week
To strengthen its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Ganjam district has started COVID Week. This will be observed from 24th September to 1st October. During this week, the administration will conduct an extensive COVID-19 awareness campaign. As per the report, the authorities will focus on IEC- Information, Education, and Communication activities.
IPS Reshuffle in the State YK Jethwa Becomes ADGP, L&O
The state government has made a major reshuffle in the IPS cadre and appointed nine officers in new roles. As per the report, YK Jethwa, Ritu Arora, and Arun Kumar Ray have been appointed as ADGP (Law & Order), OSD (Home Department), and ADGP (Communication), respectively. IPS Vinaytosh Mishra has been appointed as Director of SCRB.
Hospitalization is Compulsory for Cancer Patients with COVID-19 Symptoms
A senior Oncologist of AHPGIC- Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer, Dr. Surendra Nath Senapati, has informed that hospitalization is a must for COVID-19 symptomatic Cancer patients. He further informed that cancer patients are more vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus as patients suffering from lymphoma or blood cancer have a low level of immunity.
COVID-19 can Affect Nervous System
Professor of Neurology at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mallick, has stated that COVID-19 is also affecting the CNS- Central Nervous System. Some of the most commonly visible mental conditions among the patients are Encephalitis, Meningitis, brain stroke, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, and headaches. This virus also affects PNS- Peripheral Nervous System.
Sk. Matlub Ali, Former Odisha Minister Passes Away
Former state minister as well as senior Congress leader Sk. Matlub Ali passed away at 78. As per the report, on 7th September 2020, he was admitted to Bhubaneswar’s private hospital following some illnesses. He died while undergoing treatment. He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 1974, 1980, 1985, and 1995.
